Thrifty For a Cause - Grimes Thrift Market to Open

Many Hands for Haiti, a Pella based non-profit, has announced it will be opening a new thrift store in Grimes, Iowa. The Many Hands Thrift Market will be located in a new 22,500 square foot building located at 2900 SE Grimes Boulevard, right off of highway 141.

Set to open in late summer, the store will serve the local community with gently used, secondhand goods and unique imported Haitian products. Many Hands Thrift Market will draw customers and donations from Grimes and the surrounding areas. The store will carry products such as clothing, furniture, and home decor. As well, there will be a store-within-a store that sells Haitian products, such as handmade metal art, jewelry, and coffee, providing much needed economic development for the people of Haiti.

The proceeds from sales will go towards feeding and development programs in Haiti, with Many Hands additionally giving back some of its proceeds via their Local Impact Program. This program allows people to attribute their donations to a local church. Based on the value of donated items, Many Hands Thrift Market then provides gift cards to these ministries, who then pass them on to people in need from their congregations. In addition to the Local Impact Plan, the thrift market will also be partnering with a local furniture ministry, providing furniture to over 200 families coming out of homelessness and rebuilding their lives.

“Many Hands Thrift Market will provide the opportunity for people to participate in local and global missions through volunteering, donating, and shopping. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised at Many Hands Thrift Market will support ministries,” said Tim Brand, Executive Leader of Many Hands for Haiti. “With our Local Impact Programs, we want to give back to the communities that will be supporting us in our work. As Americans, we tend to have an abundance of possessions. We provide a way for people to clear out clutter and generate dollars for a good cause.”

Various types of volunteers will be needed to run the store including clothing sorters, cashiers, cleaners, and hands-on types of people, thus providing an opportunity for every skill set. Brand believes this is the perfect position for those looking for a purposeful volunteer experience, and a great opportunity for those looking to give back.

“Volunteers and donations are essential to what we are trying to do. We want to work with the community for both local and global causes. We believe in the idea of ‘transforming together’. By working together, we become stronger,” shared Tim Brand.
